How big are the holes in the Resin Beads?
Hole sizes are generally 1.5 to 2 mm wide and are large enough to handle a variety of stringing materials, including coated wires, leather, cords, copper, silver, chain, elastic, silks, fibers and nylon.
How are the Resin Beads measured?
Most beads are measured from hole to hole. Some variation is possible from bead to bead because of the hand-craftsmanship of the product. If you have a particular use in mind that depends on precise measurements, please email email@example.com and ask us! For a proportional sizing guide, click the Sizing Guide link.
How are the Resin Beads made, and how durable are they?
Liquid resin is mixed with color, poured into containers, hardened and then once removed, hand cut and shaped into a variety of shapes and sizes. Our resin is durable, lightweight, non-toxic, and the color doesn't fade or run. We've tested the beads under hot glue guns and heat tools and you can carve into them, adhere polymer and silver clays, embellish with additional beads, rubber stamp, emboss, use overlays etc.
*Please note if the resin is in a temperature over 250 degrees, it could be dangerous to work with and lose its proportions.
Where are the resin beads made?
The resin beads are made in a small village in Java,Indonesia. It's a cottage industry. They are not mass produced. Groups of 2-3 people might be focusing on 1 shape, 1 color at a time. We are providing jobs in an area that relies on their beadmaking income. We continually give the beadmakers new colors and design ideas to work with as they skillfully create these beads.
Are special orders possible?
We might be able to accommodate you with special requests. It depends on quantities, time of year and our beadmakers work load.
Please e-mail us with your special order questions: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is there something to put on the beads to make them look a little shiny or polished?
We recommend using a non-scented light lotion or non-vegetable oil. Rub it on with a cloth and wipe off excess. Sometimes the beads come to us with little nicks and imperfections, this is part of the hand made quality.
